For the fast introduction of the IEEE 1588 technology demo versions of the IEEE 1588 protocol software are available for download. All demos are provided as binary code and can directly run on the evaluation boards of the different chip manufacturers. With the demo versions also a demo of the IEEE 1588 PTP Manager software is provided.
In addition, with the Linux Live CD IXXAT offers a demo version of the IEEE 1588 protocol stack for the PC, which can be started directly from the CD (boot image).
All platforms offered on this page provide a hardware based support for the IEEE 1588 protocol. Both time stamping and implementation of an adjustable real-time clock in hardware enables a synchronization accuracy in the nanosecond range.
Sample:
One P4080DS-PB evaluation board synchronized back-to-back with a MPC8360E-MDS reference board, using a synchronization interval of 0,125 sec, reaches an accuracy of +/- 28 nsec offset peaks. The standard deviation of the offset between the nodes is 7 nsec.
The startup and the synchronization are done very fast. Normally up to 20 synchronization intervals are required to become synchronized.

The IXXAT IEEE1588 stack offers a large number of configuration possibilities and completely implements the IEEE1588-2008 standard. Supported are the transportation protocols IPv4 (annex D), IPv6 (annex E) and IEEE 802.3 (annex F). The software also allows the operation as binary clock or transparent clock with several Ethernet interfaces. The stack has a management API, via which a management device can be implemented.
