The 1 SI CANopen module brings CANopen connectivity to the SIMATIC ET200S Distributed I/O System, allowing full integration between devices on CANopen and ET200S. Furthermore, the addition of 1 SI CANopen module into the ET200S system allows the CANopen network to be seamlessly controlled from PROFIBUS AND PROFINET.
With the 1 SI CANopen, HMS integrates its CANopen Master technology within the SIMATIC architecture. The 1SI CANopen enables the easy integration of Siemens equipment into business segments where CANopen and other CAN based protocols are used today, also opening up the possibility for Profibus/Profinet controllers (S7/ET200) to interact with CAN/CANopen fieldbus devices (gateways).

Overview

Master/Slave functionality supported
An external CANopen configuration tool is used to configure the nodes on the CANopen network. The resulting Concise DCF file is downloaded to the CANopen network master using a USB to CAN adapter. At the next startup the CANopen master will configure the network. The 1 SI CANopen Module can be configured either as a master or as a slave on the CANopen network.
The 1 SI CANopen module works with all SIMATIC ET200S Distributed I/O sytems, with the exception of the Basic and Compact versions.
Quick Start
The 1 SI CANopen module is designed to be plugged directly into a slot in an ET200S system rack. The module exchanges data and signals via the backplane bus, which also supplies the module with power.

Transparent CAN 2.0A - CAN 2.0A functionality with the 1SI CANopen
With this functionality, the 1 SI CANopen module allows transmission of any CAN frame from the PLC regardless of the overlaying CAN protocol and is capable of receiving a number of pre-defined CAN frames from the CAN network.
CAN 2.0A is the underlying protocol of many fieldbus protocols, CANopen being one of them.  When the application disables CANopen functionality, it still retains access to this protocol. CANopen can be disabled at any time, but if the user wants to re-enable CANopen functionality, the 1 SI CANopen module has to be restarted.
HMS provides new PLC function blocks for this functionality, that gives the designer of the PLC program the possibility to interpret/generate any CAN frame directly in the PLC program and thereby making it possible to implement customer specific protocols. Furthermore, it is now also possible for the user to connect nodes that only support customer specific CAN protocols to the Profibus or Profinet network.
When CANopen functionality is disabled, the only functionality available is the transmitting and receiving of CAN data frames on the bus. The frames are tagged with an identifier. Only messages with an identifier specified during setup will be forwarded to the PLC. The data in the frame is then available for the user to interpret. When sending a frame, the user specifies the data and adds a valid identifier before sending it to the module.

Configuration

Anybus Configuration Manager CANopen - Included with the 1SCANopen
CANopen configuration is made by importing a provided EDS file into the included Anybus Configuration Manager CANopen software.
The necessary information for configuring the module into the ET200S Distributed I/O System is present in the SIMATIC STEP 7 / TIA Portal tool and will not have to be downloaded separately in order to perform PLC configuration.
Any CANopen Configuration Tool can be used to configure the 1 SI CANopen. If you do not have CANopen configuration software, HMS provides the Anybus Configuration Manager, which is included in the price of the 1SICANopen module.
CANopen - USB Interface
To download the CANopen configuration from the Anybus Configuration Manager CANopen you need to access the CANopen bus from your PC using a USB-CAN interface (USB-to-CAN V2 compact).
After the configuration is finished, the CANopen network configuration can be uploaded to and stored in the PROFIBUS/PROFINET PLC or the ET200S I/O System CPU. If the 1 SI CANopen Module has to be replaced by another module, the previously stored configuration can be downloaded to the new module. The communication can then be restarted without any unnecessary delay. The change of modules can be performed with power still on.
Please note: To perform upload/download of configuration, you need a function block which can be downloaded from the 1SI CANopen support page.


Step 7 / TIA Portal

Configuration of the ET200S Distributed I/O System rack to include the 1 SI CANopen Module can be done in different ways, depending on the application.
1. The rack can be part of a PROFIBUS/PROFIBUS network. In this case the module can be configured through the PROFIBUS/PROFINET master PLC to be included in the PROFIBUS/PROFINET network.
2. If the ET200S Distributed I/O System includes an internal CPU, this can be used, in combination with the PLC, to configure the 1 SI CANopen Module for ET200S.
3. When the ET200S Distributed I/O System includes an internal CPU, it can also be used as a standalone rack. The module is configured by downloading the configuration to this CPU instead of to the PLC.
For the 1SI CANopen to feature in the hardware catalog of STEP 7, a GSD file or HSP package must be installed. These files are available to download on the 1SICANopen support page.

Step 7 / TIA Portal Integration

Step 7 / TIA Portal SIMATIC STEP 7 or the new TIA Portal configuration suite is used to configure the ET200S System rack and the 1 SI CANopen Module. The module is integratable in the hardware catalogue of the STEP 7 and the TIA Portal configuration suite.
The ET200S appears as a slave on the PROFIBUS/PROFINET network if it is configured from the PROFIBUS/PROFINET PLC. It can appear either as a master or as a slave on the CANopen network depending on the settings in the parameter list. Right-clicking on the 1 SI CANopen Module in the list of modules in the rack will allow the user to define the parameters of the module.
Hot Swap Functionality
The 1SI CANopen Module supports the function "Hot Swap" and can be removed and replaced with another module without the power being turned off. To be able to restart the module accurately and fast, the configuration can be uploaded to the PLC when configured and downloaded to the new module once this is attached to the rack.

The upload and download of the configuration is performed by PLC function blocks, available for download on the 1SI CANopen support page. There is also additional PLC function blocks available for SDO read/write and I/O fragmentation.
