Based on the partnership between IXXAT Automation and Altera, IXXAT develops designs, consisting of VHDL respectively IP cores, and software for various Industrial Ethernet protocols. A key feature of IXXAT's solution is the possibility, to connect all protocols via a uniform API to the software application of a device. Besides reducing development costs, time and risk, a FPGA-based solution has further significant advantages. In addition to a low power consumption and an extended temperature range, these is the possibility to implement other specific functions, mechanisms and interfaces in the FPGA and the future-proofed hardware design, since further, even low-level functions and mechanisms, can be added virtually via software update.
