Development of an interface module for connecting joysticks to CANopen/J1939 systems
For the connection of a new joystick series to the CANopen/J1939 field bus system, IXXAT was commissioned by a manufacturer of switches and joysticks, which works successfully in this market since many years, to develop an interface module, which should be, after the completion of development, produced in-house by the customer and distributed together with different types of joysticks.
During the project implementation, the customer focused on its core competence in the development of joysticks and outsourced the development of the field bus connection to an experienced partner. Within the development project, IXXAT worked out the requirement specification independently, based on the underlying conditions, and submitted it to the customer for approval.
After that, the hardware and firmware was developed by IXXAT in accordance with the requirement specification and first prototypes for functional and EMC testing where produced.
Key data:
- Intelligent module with 8 bit microcontroller
- 8 analog input channels, 13 digital input channels, 2 digital outputs
- I/O extension via I2C
- High-speed CAN interface
- 2 (3) printed boards: CPU module, power supply (hall board provided by the customer)
Special requirements:
- Since the devices are used within vehicles, agricultural machinery and excavators, high standards in terms of robustness and EMC must be met
- High fault tolerance with respect to the software and plausibility monitoring of the hall sensors
