Tips for the Hardware / Driver (VCI) installation

Update process to a new version of VCI CAN driver

If you plan to update to a new version of the VCI driver software and there is already a VCI dirver software installed on your computer then proceed as follows:

  1. Uninstall old VCI version.
    Open Start | Settings | Control Panel | Software
    - Select the installed VCI version in the Window "Install/Uninstall"
    - Click "Add/Remove"-Button
    - Click "OK"-Button to confirm the deinstallation

  2. Remove all IXXAT CAN Interfaces in the Device Manager.
    (only with Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista)
    - Open Start | Settings | Control Panel | System. Switch to the tab-sheet Hardware and open the device manager. 
    - Select and uninstall existing IXXAT CAN Interfaces in the "Device Manager" window
    - Please notice that the tinCAN and the USB-to-CAN must
    be connected to the computer.

  3. Download the VCI-Cleaner from our homepage (Support | Download | VCI driver version 2).

  4. Unpack the VCI-Cleaner. Copy the file into an empty directory.

  5. Start VCI Cleaner (vciclean.exe) in order to ensure complete removing of VCI files and registry entries. Therefore you need to select the drive on which Windows is installed. Please take care, that "Search for INF file" must be selected when using Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP.

  6. Install new VCI Version by starting the setup without rebooting the computer before.

  7. Reboot the computer now.

  8. Install the CAN Interface as described in the VCI installation manual.


General tips

  • Please always uninstall the available obsolete VCI installation before the VCI installation.
  • Always follow the instructions of the installation manual and hardware manual.
  • Please check the access to the installed CAN interface performed with the test button in the IXXAT Interfaces applet in the control panel.
