DeviceNet Seminar

Two Day Seminar for Developers and Decision-makers

This seminar is only offered in-house. Please ask for dates and prices.

DeviceNet is the implementation of the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) on CAN. Defined as an open standard for the industry used in factory automation it provides seemless integration and networking of various components from simple sensors over I/O-modules and drives up to the programmable controller.

Target Group and Objectives
The seminar aims at putting the participants in a position to assess the potential of DeviceNet and to implement DeviceNet in their own devices. It is intended in particular for developers and system designers who want a solid introduction to this technology.

Topics

1.
CIP introduction and overview of the three CIP implementations: DeviceNet, ControlNet, EtherNet/IP; Producer-Consumer-Model and common basics of CIP

2. CIP Application Model with Object Model, Object Library and Device Profiles; Overview of the most common objects used in CIP

3. CIP Communication Model with Message Types, Explicit Messaging and I/O Messaging; Segment Encoding and Message Format; Connected and Unconnected Message Transports; Connection Establishment

4. CIP Device Configuration showing basic methods with Electronic Data Sheet, Parameter Object and Configuration Assembly

5. Introduction to Controller Area Network (CAN) and DeviceNet as CIP over CAN

6. DeviceNet Messaging using CAN; Mapping of Explicit and I/O Messages to CAN Layer 2; Connection Establishment using Connection Object; Predefined Master/Slave Connection Set; CIP Transport Classes

7. DeviceNet Object Library with DeviceNet Object and Connection Object

8. DeviceNet Physical Layer with requirements for Network Topology, Media Attachment, Indicators and Switches

9. ODVA Conformance Testing Process; Demonstration of a DeviceNet system
